| "Tenkan" is the Japanese word for epilepsy or seizure, and the characters translate out to roughly "nervous" and "insanity". The first time I looked up the characters, I thought, "doesn't it just _figure_ that no matter where you go, we're called insane?", but the more I thought about it, the more it fit. Epilepsy is a sort of insanity of the nerves, or rather, an insanity of the nervous system. Every time you have a seizure, it's like your nervous system goes a bit crazy. I know I'm twisting the meaning a little, but it's like LGBT people using 'queer' and giving the word their own meaning. It's our job as people with epilepsy and family and friends of epileptics to change how the world sees us and this disorder.
The propose of this site is to offer information and personal expreriances with and about epilepsy. You may find information that is very helpful and you may find some that is not. Every person with epilepsy is different, and every case is different, just like every person is different. If you'd like to contribute essays, writings, poems, or art work related to epilepsy, please see the about page.
